The STO program provides qualifying families with tuition assistance. There are income eligibility guidelines and an application that must be submitted in order to receive assistance. The application has a fee of $36 per family (not per student) and also requires the uploading of a copy of the current tax year federal return. Filing for STO assistance is also required to qualify or to apply for any local assistance programs. The round 1 deadline for STO application is May 3, 2024 and the round 2 deadlines is August 9, 2024. Local assistance is awarded in the summer after STO awards are awarded and reviewed again in the spring. Local assistance is funded from Kucera Grants, named scholarships and miscellaneous donors.
Scrip is an easy way to reduce some of your tuition amount. Scrip can be purchased for groceries, gas, dining out, etc. Scrip can be purchased through St. Francis Xavier's website at: https://www.xavier.pvt.k12.ia.us/scrip or at a few of our local banks. Local banks include Fidelity and MidWest One. When designated, 50% of scrip credits are sent to Beckman Catholic High School and applied directly to the family's tuition or lunch balance.
Talk to your tax advisor to learn the benefits of using a 529 Plan for your child's tuition, as nonpublic K-12 tuition is an eligible expense for 529 plans in addition to paying for college.
