On Thursday, November 21st, as part of National Apprenticeship Week, Beckman Catholic High School and Engineering Services & Products Company (FarmTek) officially welcomed Gabriella Schilling as the school’s and company’s newest apprentice through a signing ceremony held at Beckman Catholic High School.
Students at Beckman Catholic take dual-credit engineering courses in partnership with Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC), which are open to ALL students. The courses cover topics such as Introduction to Engineering, Engineering Graphics and Design, Blueprint Reading, and AC/DC Fundamentals. Students enrolled in the engineering curriculum are then eligible to apply for the apprenticeship program with Engineering Services and Products Company. Through the application and interview process, students are hired as apprentices, working alongside FarmTek’s engineers to expand and enhance their learning while getting paid for their work. Upon completion of the apprenticeship, students receive a certificate from the United States Department of Labor, along with college courses that can apply toward programs at NICC or other colleges and universities.
Beckman Catholic’s program is the first registered apprenticeship for a non-public school in the state of Iowa.
